XR5 Challenge August Recap

And we’re off! The opening round of the #xr5challenge brought impressive riding and some new names for the forefront of WOO Kite, with top sessions coming in from the Netherlands, Brazil, the Canary Islands, and Hood River.

In Men’s Biggest Boost, the Dutchies dominated the leaderboard. Perfect conditions hit the coast during the first week of August, combining strong winds and big swell for optimal boosting. Erik Blokker took the top spot with a jump of 23.9m, followed closely by Bastian den Bezemer at 23.0m and CORE Pro Rider Steven Akkersdijk at 22.6m.

On the Female side, it was a tight race between Mariska Wildenberg of the Netherlands and Iany Marques of Brazil. Mariska jumped out to an early lead, recording a 13.5m jump during the first week of the month. But Iany squeaked out the victory, recording a 13.6m jump at her home spot near Itarema, Brazil.

The Biggest Month of Boosting was also a close race, as James Friesen of Canada and Cristian of the Canary Islands went back and forth throughout the month. Cristian was the most consistent, knocking out 1-2 hrs of boosting almost every day of the month, totaling 34km of total height. James on the other hand went for big marathon sessions when the wind came up in Hood River, Oregon, capping the month with a 7 hr. session that put his monthly total over 36km (and secured him the impressive Mont Blanc Badge!)

Don’t forget – there’s also a Wildcard slot available to anyone on WOO sharing their session photo to Instagram or Facebook using #xr5challenge! The top 10 submissions at the end of the November will be voted on the community to pick the final winner.
